The Sculpting Smooze
Disheartened and a small update.

How do people keep on going in a field of art where you can see so many people who are better than you, sometimes been doing it for less time and make it all look so easy? I keep on trying to do better with my sculpts but they all just seem to come out so… boring and stale compared to others. Don’t get the wrong end of the stick here, I’m not giving up… Yet. I try and take inspiration from others but it get too much sometimes.

Guess I just need to keep on marching on with all this.

On a side note I have been working on things.

The armoured deer I’ve wanted to do since BUCK has started to take shape but is still a ways off, still in the blocking out stage

And the 2nd wyvern has started to get a lick of paint as well

So, here to hoping that these will bring me from the brink of disaster of packing the clay away…

TL:DR

My god I’ve had this guy for way too long and I’ve finally gotten around to finish painting him.

The white was a bit of a pain to do but I learnt a lot from this, mainly how to get it to look smooth. Now to start on the 2nd one so I can mount them on my wall, thinking of trying using some spray paint, see what effect I get out of it all.

Let me know what you all think please. Thanks

*Note this wasn’t made by me, just another simple re-paint*

My Skillshare Class is Now LIVE!  Sign Up Today!
Learn how to sculpt your own critters with my new video-based class on Skillshare.  Much like my book, Creature Sculpt, this class is aimed at beginners and will take you through the entire sculpting process.
How it Works : Skillshare classes allow you to learn at your own pace.  There are no assignment deadlines.  You can watch the videos as time permits and complete the steps as fast or as slow as you want.  There are no formal lectures or evaluations.  However, you are encouraged to post your work-in-progress shots to the student forums for critique and discussion amongst your peers.  I will be overseeing the forums to give my own advice and guidance to students.
What You Get : The class includes over two and a half hours of high quality video footage showing the entire sculpting process.  Topics covered include materials and research, armatures, blocking, refining, detailing, finishing, and painting.  Lifetime access to the class will be provided by Skillshare.  This will include any and all updates and additions I make to this class.
You will also get access to the class forums where you can post questions, get critique, and share tips and ideas.  While this is largely a student-based forum, I will also review the forums regularly to tend to questions and give advice.
Prerequisites : No previous sculpting experience is required, however, I do recommend that students have some sort of artistic background.  Previous knowledge of drawing, anatomy, design, and color are all very helpful.
How Much?  The regular cost of the class is $40 USD.  However, I am running a 50% off promotion that lasts now through the end of August.  This is a thank you to all of the amazing people that have supported me over the years!
Use coupon code “ThankYou” to get lifetime access to my class for a super-low limited price of $20 USD.  Please use the link below to sign up.  I get a MUCH higher cut of the sign up fee if you use the links that I provide vs. signing up through the Skillshare website.
Sign Up for “Sculpting Creatures and Critters” Today!
Skillshare also offers a monthly membership to their entire class library.  It is $9.99 per month for unlimited access.  However, this will not entitle you to permanent membership in my class.  You will have to continue paying the monthly rate in order to continuously access the material, new and old.
Please spread the word and thank you all for your support!

LAST DAY to get 50% off on my Skillshare class.  You can buy it now and take the class later if you don’t have the time right now.  Purchasing the class gives you lifetime access to the videos and forums.
In 3 weeks, on September 20, Skillshare will be going members-only.  If you have a coupon for free entry into the class, you need to use it before that date.  All 10 free class coupons have been mailed out from my Creature Sculpt promotion.  If you purchased one of the final 100 copies, be sure to check for a flier inside with a coupon code for the class.
So long as you have purchased the class outright prior to September 20th, you will have lifetime access to my class.  After that date, if you haven’t yet purchased the class, you will have to be a member to view it on Skillshare, at the rate of $9.99/month.
As I still want to provide an a-la-carte purchasing option for my viewers, I have made my class available on Udemy.com.  This is the exact same class just on a different platform.  I will be updating and monitoring both Skillshare and Udemy equally.  Use this link to get the same $40 pricing that is offered on Skillshare.
I broke the 100 student mark the other day!  Thank you all for continuing to make this class so successful!

This is Chester. When I was in Afghanistan I got a care package from one of those “Adopt a Soldier” programs that lets families send care packages to service men and women who are deployed overseas. Anyway, I got this care package, and it came with the usual stuff: Baby wipes, crackers, peanut butter, the Dad threw in a pack of cigarettes, and there was some jerky. But there was also a little beanie baby gold fish and a hand written note from a 7 year old girl that said “Dear Soldier, (I wasn’t even mad) I hope you are doing well. I’m sorry you have to miss thanksgiving with your family. This is my friend Chester. He keeps me safe from monsters, but I think you need him more than I do. I hope he keeps you safe from the monsters you’re fighting. Take good care of him for me”.
You bet your ass that little fish was in my pocket every time I went on patrol.

BUCK 2014

Wow, what a weekend .

I had such a great time at the con, everyone I met was brilliant and fun to chat with. The panels were amazing and a lot of fun, the improve ‘Who’s show is it anyway?’ had me in hysterics, I swear I haven’t laughed that much in a long long time. One of the many highlights of the con was getting to meet and chat a little bit with FrozenPyro. Really great guy. XD

All the pictures I took (Way too many to post on here) I’ve posted up on imgur, Feel free to re-post any pictures of yourself anywhere you wish or just take them for yourself.

So, thnks to everyone. All the staff, vendors, the guests and of course the attendees. You made this a great weekend, one I’m not gonna forget for a long long time
